A19 Tyne Tunnel

Route 1 Infrastructure were employed by Highways England to inspect 244 elastomeric bearings on the A19 Silverlink junction. The structure comprised of 4 independent sections, each with 3 spans. Each span had a fixed end and free end. The fixed elastomeric bearings each had 2no steel dowels cast into the below concrete. The abutments were accessed on foot by climbing the revetments and the pier locations accessed by a MEWP. Due to the location, the inspection was undertaken at night over a two week period. The report provided to Highways England contained our findings and included recommendations for remedial works on the bearings where required.
